The kind of people we like to hire have big aspirations.

While we expect them to go the extra mile for our customers, they expect us to go the extra mile for their development, and to offer them an exciting career rather than just daily employment.

That’s why our directors spent a lot of time developing Block’s Career & Personal Development Plan. Here’s a snapshot of what the plan aims to achieve:
  • Provide an open, transparent and ambitious career path for all employees
  • Give formal and informal opportunities for contribution in company strategy and development to all members of staff on a regular basis – fostering an ‘inclusive’ culture
  • Provide competitive remuneration for all staff and aim to maximize work/life balance within operating constraints
  • Develop each individual through a personal learning and training plan in line with their career aspirations and progression within the business, moderated through an appraisal scheme
  • To provide and fund excellent formal and informal training and learning opportunities, including formal qualifications, as part of these individual plans
And here’s some of the results we’ve achieved:
  • Every current member of staff has increased their levels of formal qualification or vendor certification while employed by Block
  • Our staff turnover rates are consistently under 5% per annum
  • Much of our way of working has been developed at ‘all company’ sessions, where every employee gets to tell the company openly and frankly how we could be doing things better
  • Two of our senior staff have achieved CCIE while with the company (Cisco’s highest level of technical certification), and two more are hoping to do so this financial year
